Fitch baseball team topples Montville to finish regular season 16-4

Montville — Fitch scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 10-2 baseball victory over Montville on Thursday.

Cam McGugan had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs for the Falcons, who finish the regular season, and winning pitcher Dylan Meyer scattered four hits over six innings without allowing an earn run while striking out six and not walking a batter.

Also for Fitch, Ryan O'Connor had a double, two RBI, Trace Morales had two hits, including a double, with two RBI and a run, Tate Scherer had two hits and scored twice, Sean Porter singled with a run and an RBI, Lukas McAlister had two hits, including a double, and scored, and Donte Valentine doubled and scored twice.

Andrew Wigfield had a double, run and an RBI for Montville, which finishes 4-16, and Jack Perkins had a single and RBI.

In other games:

• Cody Palazzesi pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and helped his cause with two hits, a run and an RBI as Somers defeated Lyman Memorial 3-0 in a nonleague game. Josh Person struck out nine in six innings for the Bulldogs (14-5) and Alex Ortiz doubled.

• Winning pitcher Aiden McMaster scored three times for Plainfield in its 8-5 win over Bacon Academy. Outfielder Codey Lefevre made a diving catch to prevent the tying run from scoring in the top of the sixth inning for the Panthers. Andrew Navickas went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, Steven Laliberte had two runs and Jack Novak hit a solo home run, his seventh of the season, for the Bobcats (16-3).

• Ethan Chavez pitched a complete-game shutout and Kolby Quinn hit a three-run homer to highlight St. Bernard's 11-0 non-league win over Westbrook on Wednesday. Joe Basso had a single and triple and scored three runs for the Saints (9-9) and Bryce Morrissett­e had a double, two RBI and two runs.

Boys' golf

• Medalist Nate McCormack shot a 37 and Jack Kramer shot a 38 as Fitch beat East Lyme 4-3 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Divison I match and Montville. Fitch is 8-7, 3-3. Jack Bucko, Ben Caron and Pat Kelly won for the Vikings (8-8, 4-2), Grant Kortfelt won his match for Montville (12-2).

• Unbeaten Killingly defeated Stonington 6-1 in an ECC Division II match. Cam O'Connor shot a 40 to earn the lone win for the Bears (8-8, 3-3), while teammate Brandon Tavares shot the low round for Stonington with a 39.

Boys' volleyball

• Westhill beat Norwich Tech 2512, 25-11, 25-11. Jared Encisco had seven assists, four digs and two kills for Norwich Tech (2-12) and Luis Santiago had six digs, five kills and an ace.

Softball

• Kanani Brown had two hits and drove in the lone run during Grasso Tech's 16-1 loss to Vinal Tech in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference on Wednesday. The Eagles are 0-12.

• Old Lyme completed its regular season at 15-5 with a 12-2 nonleague road win over Griswold on Wednesday night.

Victoria Gage had three hits, including the 100th of her career in the fifth inning, and also had a bases-loaded double for the Wildcats, while Jamie Bucior was 1-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, and winning pitcher Emma Bayor allowed only two hits while striking out 12 to improve to 9-3.

Girls' tennis

• Fitch cruised to a 7-0 win over Ledyard on Wednesday, getting singles wins from Julia Mielguj, Charlotte and Madison Beaulieu and Fiza Shariff, and doubles wins from Kristine Lee-Anna Servedio, Sophie Ash-Katelyn Cervini and Ada Ellis-Izzy Ash.

Boys' track and field

• Phoenix Garza won three events as Stonington completed a perfect regular season with a 120-28 win over Lyman Memorial on Wednesday. Garza won the 110-meter hurdles (16.2 seconds), high jump (5 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (18-5) for the Bears (50), while Josh Mooney captured the 200 (23.9) and 400 (53.4) and Steven Wilk the 300 hurdles (44.9) and triple jump (37-5). Thomas Cardinali won the 100 dash (11.3) for the Bulldogs (6-1).

• Lucas and Jacob Strain won two events apiece during Wednesday's 129-15 win over Putnam. Lucas won the long jump (19-5) and 1,600 (5:06) while Jacob captured the 400 (53.70) and high jump (5-4).

Girls' track and field

• Nancy Inthasit, Addison Labbe and Phoebe Werling won two individual events apiece as Stonington beat Lyman Memorial 82-67 in a battle of unbeatens on Wednesday. Inthasit won the 100 (12.4) and 200 (26.3), Labbe the 1,600 (6:29.2) and 3,200 (12:27.5) and Werling the discus (872) and javelin (98-5) for the Bears (50).

Gabriela Dinisoe won the 100 hurdles (18.1) and pole vault (9-0) for the Bulldogs (6-1) and Kristen Goodrich added wins in the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (32-8).

• Taylor Bialowas, Laila Bakhshaliz­adeh and Devyn Pelillo were double winners during Griswold's 88-6 win over Putnam on Wednesday. Bialowas won the 100 (13.1) and long jump (15-11), Bakhshaliz­adeh the 400 (1:20.9) and 300 hurdles (1:04.2) and Pelillo the discus (64-5.5) and javelin (62-6).
