Sun bounce back in big way, topple Wings

The Connecticut Sun weren't pleased with themselves after a rare home loss on Tuesday to the Dallas Wings.

DeWanna Bonner and Connecticut made sure they got the Wings back the second time around on Thursday night, 99-68, before 4,308 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The game wasn't what Bonner wanted to talk about.

"There's just so much going on in the world," Bonner said, referring to Tuesday's school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. "It's been a really emotional time because I just wake up and see … (those) two precious babies (Cali and Demi, her twin daughters) and knowing what happened in (Uvalde), I couldn't imagine that.

"It's a really sad time. Every day this is just normal (mass shootings). You just go on and go play this basketball game and those parents are just, I mean, what are they doing (to cope)?"

It was the fourth time that Connecticut (5-2) scored 90-or-more points. It scored that many just twice last season en route to a league-best 26-6 record.

Brionna Jones had 15 points and seven rebounds, Jonquel Jones had 12 points and five rebounds and Bonner had 18 points and six rebounds for the Sun. Reserve DiJonai Carrington added 13 points and five rebounds.

Natisha Hiedeman, in her second start of the season at point guard, had 17 points, six assists and three steals. She's taken over that position after longtime starting point guard Jasmine Thomas tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee late in the first quarter of Sunday's 92-70 win at the Indiana Fever.

Satou Sabally scored 18 and Arike Ogunbowale had 16 points for the Wings (5-3), which shot 36.9 percent.

Connecticut led the Wings by as much as 13 points during the first half of Tuesday's game but lost, 8577. Dallas outscored the Sun in the second half, 58-38.

Connecticut once again led the Wings by 12 points at the half (4735). This time it finished.

"Nice bounce back for us tonight," Sun head coach Curt Miller said. "Déjà vu — we went to halftime with a 12 point lead game and really challenged our players what was that third quarter going to be like and what did we learn from Tuesday night that would help us in this second half.

"I thought we did a real nice job of keeping our foot on the gas and stayed focused and respectful of how dangerous (Dallas) can be offensively."
