Charles Corrado

-

Niantic — Charles “Chick” Corrado passed away May 23, 2022, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital,

New London, with his family by his side. He was born in New Bedford, Mass., the son of William and Lillian Corrado. He served for four years in the United States Coast Guard stationed at the Coast Guard Training Station at Avery Point.

Chick leaves Paula, his wife of 61 years; his son Charles also “Chick” and his wife Sandy; and his daughter Joy Woolley and her husband Dave. He was also very close with Gunay Sen from Turkey, who stayed with his family for a year as an exchange student.

Chick was chairman of the Waterford Water Pollution Control Authority for many years, having a reputation for his adamant, sometimes abrasive, insistence that the people of Waterford receive full value for their tax dollars.

Chick loved his family, his dogs, fly fishing, our national parks, and growing roses and orchids. He recently fulfilled his lifelong dream of fly fishing the DePuy Spring Creek in Montana. But the real pleasure of his life was watching his granddaughters grow into amazing, accomplished women. They are Meghan Woolley, Abigail Corrado, Sarah Woolley Hutchins and Casey Corrado.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides on L+M 4.2 for their care during the last difficult weeks.

A casual memorial will be held at noon Tuesday, May 31, at Langley’s at the Great Neck Country Club, 28 Lamphere Road, Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the East Lyme Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 965, Niantic, CT 06357 or the National Park Foundation, 1500 K Street, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005. Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit www. neilanfuneralhome.com to leave the family an online condolence.
