James Kelly

Uncasville — James E. Kelly died Thursday, May 26, 2022. He was born April 21, 1939, to Robert and Catherine (Garvey) Kelly in New London.

He was a graduate of New London High School and received his associate of science degree in general studies from Three Rivers Community-Technical College. He was a proud member of the Elks 360 of New London.

He married Dorothy L. Grisham May 2, 1964, at St. Mary’s Church in Norwich, and lived in Uncasville. He worked at Electric Boat in Groton, for 37 years as the chief of safety. He then served as a judicial marshal in New London, until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Kelly; two daughters, Susan Swain and her husband Tom of

New London, and Karen and her partner Jenn Taylor of North Providence, R.I.; a son, James, of Norwich; his grandson Zachary Lusk and his wife Meghan; and his beloved great-grandson Easton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored. Two sisters, Katherine and Peg; and two brothers, Tommy and Bobby, predeceased him.

The Kelly family would like to thank all the kindhearted people who helped with his care. The love and caring that they showed will not be forgotten.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, in St. Mary’s Church in New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
