Old Lyme — William Louis “Bill” Poeta Jr., 68, of Old Lyme, beloved husband of Donna Lee Calabria Poeta, passed away at home Saturday, May 21, 2022. Born in Derby, he was the son of the late William and Joan Golino Poeta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam era.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from SCSU in New Haven. Bill was a financial analyst for Pratt and Whitney and a CPA before his retirement in 2019. Previously, he was a controller at Thames Printing and a millworker at American Brass Co.

Bill enjoyed golf, fly fishing, woodworkin­g, shooting and attending horse shows with his daughter. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchild­ren. Bill was an avid gun collector and member of the NRA.

Besides his wife Donna of 40 years, he is survived by his two children, daughter Devon Poeta of Attleboro, Mass., and son Ryan Poeta (Kim) of Shelton; two grandchild­ren, Landon and Leighton Poeta of Shelton; and two sisters, Christine Ciepiela (Michael) of Naugatuck, and Lisa Poeta Bowe of Ansonia. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as his faithful dog Olivia and grand chinchilla­s, Chilli, Pepper and Theodore. He is predecease­d by his parents, William and Joan Poeta; and his son Shane Poeta.

Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, at the Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, in the Duck River Cemetery.
