No. 1 Waterford boys lose to H-K in Class S lacrosse quarterfin­als

Waterford — Corey Phipps had four goals and an assist to lead eighth-seeded Haddam-Killingwor­th to a 9-6 win over top-seeded Waterford in the quarterfin­als of the CIAC Class S boys' lacrosse tournament on Saturday.

The Cougars will play No. 5 Weston, a 10-9 winner over No. 4 Sheehan, in Wednesday's semifinals at a site and time to be determined. The Lancers, who won the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference tournament, finish 16-4.

Nolan Barren added three goals, Alex Phipps one goal and four assists, and goalie Braden Civiello made seven saves for Haddam-Killingwor­th, which was outshot 31-12.

John Zimmermann and Trevor Stringer scored two goals apiece for the Lancers while C.J. Landry added one goal and one assist, Anthony Stone, Aiden Bousquet and Jackson Huta each had one assist and goalie Jake Kozlowski made two saves.

H.S. baseball

• Kaede Wood no-hit No. 22 Old Lyme over four innings and No. 3 Somers rolled to a 14-1 win over the Wildcats in the Class S quarterfin­als. Somers (19-4) will play No. 7 Oxford in Tuesday's semifinals. Jimmy Creagan had a single and double for Old Lyme, which finishes 12-12.

• Rafael Rodriguez was 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs as No. 10 Maloney defeated No. 15 East Lyme 7-4 in the Class L quarterfin­als. The Vikings finish 14-11.

H.S. girls' tennis

• Waterford's Sarah Hage is seeded third in singles and Old Lyme's Alexis Fenton-Livie Bass are the No. 3 seed in doubles for the CIAC State Open individual tournament which begins on Monday at Wesleyan University in Middletown.

Also entered are Stonington's Maddie Hamm and Grace Duggan and East Lyme's Mra Wolff in singles, and the doubles teams of Old Lyme's Aggie Hunt-Beatrice Hunt, Stonington's Katie Johnstone-Katya Snegovskik­h and East Lyme's Iris Liu-Avery Rindell.

H.S. boys' tennis

• Four local players will take part in the CIAC State Open individual tournament which starts on Monday at Wesleyan.

East Lyme's Daniel Sapozhniko­v, Fitch's Will Albrikes, Ledyard's Julian Mileski and Stonington's Tucker Callahan are in the singles draw as is the East Lyme doubles team of Rohan Purohit and Rohun Boopathy.

Boys' golf

• Nine local teams have qualified for the CIAC divisional golf championsh­ips.

East Lyme, Fitch and Norwich Free Academy will play in the Division I tournament on Monday at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Bacon Academy, Stonington and Waterford will take part in the Division II tournament on Monday at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron, and Montville, Old Lyme and Wheeler will play in the Division II tourney on Tuesday at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton.
