BALTIC MAN CHARGED WITH VOYEURISM
Montville — State police charged a 51-year-old Baltic man on probation last month with two counts of voyeurism with malice after police found several incriminating videos on a smartphone in his home.
Gregory Butts, of 194 Main St., Baltic, was convicted in 2016 of illegal sexual contact and sentenced to 15 years of probation with the State of Connecticut Office of Adult Probation in 2018. On March 3, probation officers conducted a search during a home visit and located several smartphones and hand-written notes listing usernames pertaining to females as young as 13 years old.
After seizing and reviewing some of the devices, police found that one of the smartphones contained nude images and videos of a young adult female, seemingly taken without her knowledge, while she was getting in and out of the shower. The female was later identified as Butts' neighbor.
A forensic examination found that one of the phones contained six videos of the female in the bathroom where she was often displayed nude, all recorded in 2019. Another phone had 24 images of the same female in the bathroom. Among these images, three were original pictures taken in January and the rest were duplicated, according to the warrant. Police said it appeared the videos were created while standing on the rear deck of the victim's residence.
In an interview with police, the victim confirmed she never consented to being photographed or recorded and that Butts was not permitted on her property.
Butts was arrested by warrant and charged on March 4 with violation of probation. Following arraignment at court, Butts was held on a $1 million court-set bond and remains in custody.
