Mystic — Mildred Gremley Hodgson, 99, of 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, died peacefully Thursday, June 9, 2022, at the Avalon Health Center, 15 days prior to her 100th birthday.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Kenneth Orrin Hodgson, whom she married Sept. 22, 1945. Mildred was born in West Mystic on June 24, 1922. She graduated from the Mystic Academy High School in 1940, and from Connecticu­t College in 1944.

Mildred was a gracious woman centered by her family and her Christian faith, with a passion for music, the arts and antiques. She raised her two sons during the 1950s and ’60s in various locations, making career-driven moves with Ken to Illinois, New York state and Massachuse­tts, then returning home to Connecticu­t in retirement. She was active with her churches in each community, adding her alto voice to each choir. She was also an accomplish­ed pianist, using that skill to accompany a variety of musical groups throughout the years.

In retirement, Mildred and Ken joined St. Andrew Presbyteri­an Church in Groton. Mildred derived much enjoyment as an active member of

the choir there. She was most proud to receive “Emeritus” status upon retirement from the choir. She was a member and active volunteer for the Mystic Seaport Museum, and could usually be found in the Membership Building recruiting new members.

Following Ken’s passing, she moved into the StoneRidge community in Mystic, where she participat­ed in many activities, loving the social interactio­ns with her numerous friends and neighbors there.

Mildred is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Christophe­r and Jane Hodgson of Hollis, N.H.; two grandchild­ren, Stephen Hodgson and his wife Natalia, and Katrina Scott and her husband Brian; and four great-grandchild­ren, all of Manhattan Beach, Calif.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at the St. Andrew Presbyteri­an Church, 310 Fort Hill Road, Groton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the StoneRidge Scholarshi­p Fund, c/o StoneRidge Retirement Community, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, CT 06355. The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, is in charge of arrangemen­ts.
