Bradley Pendleton

Voluntown — Bradley H. Pendleton, 68, of Voluntown, devoted husband of Susan, passed away with his family by his side on June 11, 2022. Brad was born Aug. 13, 1953, in Preston, the son of Stanley and Marion (Clark) Pendleton, both of whom predeceased him. Brad was married Dec. 20, 1980, to Susan (Blackstone) Pendleton. They renewed their vows in Preston in November 2009.

Brad, as all his siblings, worked hard from a very young age at any job that was required to support the family. As his father was a lumberjack, they spent long hours in the forests and lumber mills near their home in Voluntown. Brad joined the U.S. Army at age 17 and graduated high school while serving in Germany. Later, Brad studied at Mohegan College (Three Rivers), working on his associate degree. When Brad returned home from active duty in Germany, he joined the CT National Guard (192nd, Troop Command), retiring as a first sergeant.

Brad worked for 17 years at Electric Boat, then moved to the Submarine Base in security as a policeman. In his retirement, he worked at a variety of jobs including Home Depot and continuing his passion for mowing lawns and yardwork.

Brad was a hard worker; often burning the candle at both ends, a teller of tall tales and a ribald story or two, a lover of laughter and black-and-white Westerns, and loyal to the end. And when his lungs betrayed him, he found a way to socialize with family and friends on his computer and Facebook.

In addition to his wife, Brad is also survived by two sons and one daughter, Jeremiah and Suzzy of Quaker Hill, Joshua and Brooke of Richmond, Va., and Joyce of Canterbury; two grandchildren, Bradley and Charlie Pendleton of Richmond, Va.; six brothers and eight sisters, Harold and Phyllis, George and Sharon, Michael and Vivian, Charlie and Mary, Fred and Mary, Donald, Evelyn and Dan Howe, Peggy Picco, Laura Stroh, Martha and Bruce Laney, Kathleen Brown, Maryann Mickey, Nancy Langlois, Melissa Pendleton-Rain; and nieces and nephews too many to list, but equally loved. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sarah Sloane and Clara Murphy.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at Robbins Cemetery, Voluntown. For online condolences please go to www.gagnefuneralhome.com/
