Conn College’s Ford in line for pair of national honors

Hadley, Mass. — Connecticu­t College's Maddie Ford, who recently graduated following an All-American swimming career, is one of 11 women nominated to represent the New England Small College Athletic Conference as its NCAA Woman of the Year and Division III Commission­ers Associatio­n Women's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year.

A committee of conference administra­tors will select the NESCAC's representa­tive for the awards.

The NESCAC, in a Thursday release, said the NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguis­hed themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievemen­t, athletics excellence, service, and leadership.

The Division III Commission­ers Associatio­n Women's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year award, which will be awarded for the first time this year, honors the same areas as the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

Ford graduated with distinctio­n with a double major in in computer science and art. She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and was a Winthrop Scholar. She earned Dean's List honors four times and was a four-time NESCAC All-Academic Honoree.

A five-time NCAA Division III All-American and a seven-time All-NESCAC performer in the pool, Ford was also selected to the CoSIDA Women's At-Large All-America Team in 2020 and was a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American. She was presented with the Brown Brooks Award, given to Conn's top female scholar-athlete.

The NESCAC's other nominees were Molly Craig (Williams swimming and diving), Ruby Hastie (Amherst soccer), Mary Hufzinger (Tufts swimming and diving), Sharde Johnson (Colby track and field), Joanna Kim (Williams golf), Erin Nicholas (Middlebury field hockey and lacrosse), Lydia Pitts (Bowdoin track and field), Nina Pruenster (Colby ice hockey), Bridget Thompson (Bates field hockey) and Kim Zhou (Amherst soccer).

H.S. boys' lacrosse

• East Lyme attack Sean McCusker was named to the Connecticu­t High School Coaches' Associated Class M all-state second team. His name was inadverten­tly omitted in a list of local athletes receiving all-state honors in The Day's local roundup on Thursday.
