NORWICH POLICE SEEK DRIVER WHO STRUCK PEDESTRIAN SATURDAY
Norwich — A pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle Saturday on Boswell Avenue, a short distance from where a car had slammed into a house two days earlier.
Police said officers were called to the area of 251 Boswell Ave. at 12:04 p.m. Saturday for a report that a motor vehicle had struck a pedestrian. Police learned that a Buick Lacrosse had struck a pedestrian and the driver fled on foot. The pedestrian was transported to Backus Hospital with serious injuries and later was transferred to Hartford Hospital. Police on Tuesday reported the unidentified pedestrian was in fair condition at Hartford Hospital.
Police are seeking the driver of the Buick Lacrosse, whom officers identified as Blake Morgan McCray, 23, regarding the crash. A witness reported McCray may have been in possession of a firearm when he fled, but no weapon was observed.
According to the police accident report, the Buick Lacrosse was traveling north on Boswell Avenue, when the driver veered to the right, struck the pedestrian on the sidewalk and a car parked on the northbound shoulder, causing heavy damage to the parked car.
Police said the Buick Lacrosse had heavy front-end damage and was seized by police and towed from the scene.
The crash occurred two days after a car driven by D'Andre Dulin, 38, of 39 Hobart Ave., Apt. 1, crashed into the front porch of a home at 295 Boswell Ave. and also fled on foot. Police, with assistance from a state police K-9 team, tracked down Dulin to a nearby wooded area. No one was injured, and a city building official deemed the house safe for occupancy.
The two crashes prompted several residents to attend Monday's City Council meeting to ask for increased police presence and a crackdown on speeding on the busy road that connects Greeneville to downtown Norwich. Residents asked for speed bumps or rumble strips in the roadway to slow traffic.
