Sun look to jumpstart offense against Dream

-

The Connecticut Sun scored 105 points when they played the Atlanta Dream less than two weeks ago.

The Sun's offense cooled off last week and played a role in them losing twice. They're looking to get their offense revved up again when they play at Atlanta this afternoon (3, Gateway Center Arena, NESN Plus).

Connecticut (12-6) ravaged the Dream 10592 on June 15 at Mohegan Sun Arena. It led by as much as 29 (77-48) late in the third quarter before sitting its starters in the fourth. Every player scored, with five in double figures, as the Sun combined to shoot 51.9%. The Sun also tied franchise records for most made 3-pointers in a half (10) and assists in a game (30).

The Sun averaged 39.6% shooting and 70 points in last week's losses to the Washington Mystics (June 19) and New York Liberty (June 22).

Connecticut also released reserves Jazmine Jones and Joyner Holmes, leaving it with eight healthy players (its ninth player, longtime point guard Jasmine Thomas, tore the ACL in her right knee on May 20). The Sun will announce signings on Sunday.

Atlanta (8-9) has lost five of its last six games. Rhyne Howard, the top pick in April's draft, has averaged a team-high 16.4 points with 4.5 rebounds. The Dream has also gotten a boost from newcome Asia Durr, who the New York Liberty drafted second overall in 2019. The Liberty traded her to Atlanta on June 8 in exchange for Megan Walker (who they immediately waived) and the rights to Raquel Carrera and Durr has averaged 15.8 points in five games since then.
