Magdaline Fields

-

New Haven — Magdaline E. Fields (Feb. 12, 1950, to June 14, 2022).

Magdaline was known as Maggie or Maggs to her friends, family and co-workers. She was born in San Diego, Calif., the fourth of eight children. She was the beloved daughter of the late Estelle Bell Fields and Alonzo Emerson Fields Sr.

Maggie was friendly, smart, kind and highly respected by her family and friends. Her siblings are David Payton Fields (Brenda Fields-deceased) of New Haven, Evelyn Fields Lawhorn (Arthur Jake Lawhorn-deceased) of New Haven, and Valinda Ann Fields of Groton, the late Veronica Allen Sr., Alonzo E. Fields Jr., Belinda Fields Jackson and Thadius Fields; and many nephews and nieces.

She passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, to join the big bingo hall in the sky, playing alongside her mother wearing their coordinated windbreakers with rum and Cokes in hand. Maggs was the life of every party, her laughter could be heard from down the street. If you knew her, then you knew she loved fiercely, gave generously, accidentally taught all her nieces and nephews how to swear and always had a pot of seafood gumbo or pasta on the stove at the ready.

Maggs loved and enjoyed so many things in life: going to Foxwoods, being right, Zulu Ball in NOLA, beating people at spades or bid whist, bowling a perfect score, UConn women’s basketball, chocolate dipped cherries and pecan turtles, all her cats and traveling far and wide with her “boobadah” and wild women.

Maggie has been a resident of New Haven for over 50 years. She graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, class of 1968, in Groton; and then entered the University of Connecticut, southeastern campus for two years and onto the main campus (Storrs) where she studied medical technology, graduating in 1972, and finishing her fifth year as a student intern at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in North Haven.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Greater New Haven Cat Project in her name or adopt a furry friend. A celebration of her life will be from noon to midnight Wednesday, June 29, and Thursday, June 30, at the Grand Pequot Hotel at Foxwoods. Final tribute will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at her final resting place in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
