Tourjee takes over as Waterford volleyball coach

Lancers grad has had a successful run as assistant

- Day Staff Reports

Waterford — Amanda Tourjee was named this week as the head girls' volleyball coach at Waterford High School, taking over for Matt Maynard, who resigned in April. Tourjee served as Maynard's assistant coach the last four seasons.

Tourjee is a 2014 Waterford graduate, who earned All-Eastern Connecticut Conference honors and selection to The Day's All-Area team in 2013 as the Lancers won the ECC Medium Division and went on to reach the Class M state tournament semifinals.

"We are pleased to welcome Amanda as the next girls' volleyball coach," Waterford athletic director Chris Landry said in a press release. "Her playing experience as a player at the high school, club and college level, along with her experience as an assistant coach at Waterford High School the last four years — during which the Lancers were state finalists in 2018-19 — make her an excellent fit for our next head coach.

"I am confident that Amanda will be an excellent role model for our young ladies both on and off the court."

Tourjee is an officer with the Old Saybrook Police Department.

"I could not be more honored to continue my coaching career with Waterford High School, now as the head coach, " Tourjee said in the release. "I've been lucky enough to work with these girls for the last four years, so I know what they're capable of. I'm excited to see what we can accomplish together."
