A. Elaine Hursh

-

Mystic — A. Elaine (Hursh) Jordan, 102, of Stonington passed away peacefully in her home at StoneRidge on Nov. 30, 2022. Elaine, the eldest child of Lewis Hursh Sr. and F. Leaola Marr Hursh, was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 22, 1920. She graduated from high school in Middletown and was a graduate of the Middletown Hospital School of Nursing.

She married George W. Jordan in Savannah, Ga., in 1942; they were married for 74 years prior to George’s death in 2016. They and their growing family traveled around the country for George’s work. Later, Elaine and George spent more than a year in the Netherlands and traveled extensively in Europe.

Elaine worked as an RN for many years, last as a pediatric nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stamford. She enjoyed her work very much and her family benefited from her skills.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Lewis Jr. and Robert; and one sister Mildred Crane, her husband, oldest daughter Dorothy Brackett; and daughter-in-law Nancy (Richard). She is survived by her sons, Richard and David; and her daughters, Peggy (William Brissette) and Kathy (Kirk Diamond); and her sonin-law, Robert Brackett. She leaves 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all who were lucky enough to have spent time with her.

She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by them. Elaine was a resourceful woman, raising five children and moving around the country and was excellent at keeping her family organized. She was a very active Girl Scout leader for her younger daughters as well as the family photographer for most occasions. Elaine continued to knit for her growing family and crocheted afghans for all of her children and grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Johnna and Kristin for their wonderful care of Elaine in the last few years. She will be interred in the Middletown Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, rejoining her husband, at a future date. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
