Niantic — Katherine Margolis Thibault (Miller) of Niantic, formerly of Lake Worth, Fla., passed away Jan. 15, 2023, at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. “Kitty,” a nickname given to her in her youth, was born March 9, 1933, in Norwich, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Beatrice (Meisler) Sherman. She attended local schools in Norwich and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1951.

Kitty is survived by her husband of 30 years, Michael Miller; her four loving children: Fawn J. Margolis (Cris Gravel) of Foster, R.I., Mitchell S. Margolis and wife Emma Polimeni of Waterford, Robin Margolis Silsby and husband John of Mystic, and Randi S. Margolis (Philip Velgos) of Palm Harbor, Fla. She was blessed to have six grandchildren: Bran Cedio (James Williams), Jacquelyn Cedio, James and Jessica Hodgdon, Christopher and KJ Baude, Craig Baude (Rachael Marsh) and Collin Baude (Taylor Lloyd); and six great-grandchildren. Kitty was formerly married to Harold Margolis of New London and Adrian “Tee” Thibault.

Kitty was a businesswoman through and through. She made it her goal to be the best businesswoman she could be, at a time when not many women worked out of the home. Kitty’s accomplishments are quite extensive, and we feel she would be honored that we shared some of those achievements: director of the USO Armed Services Organization in New London; co-owner of Alliance Personnel, the first woman-owned employment agency in New London; owner/ manager/audiologist of Beltone Hearing Aid Center in New Windsor, N.Y.; organizer and publisher of the Cooppa News newspaper in Pembroke Pines, Fla.; President of Kingsley Condo Association in Pembroke Pines, Fla.; City Commissioner in Pembroke Pines, Fla., from 1990 to 1998; founder/past president of the Prestige Club Inc. for abused and exploited children; past president of the New London B’nai B’rith Fraternity Chapter 19 from 1958 to 1968; past president of the Memorial Manor Nursing Home Auxiliary; and fundraising champion for numerous organizations benefiting Breast Cancer and the Cancer Society, just to name a few.

Kitty was heavily involved in the Surfers Drum & Bugle Corps in the late 1960s to early 1970s in New London and many other organizations in Connecticut, upstate New York, and Florida. She was very proud of all of her accomplishments, as are we!

As is part of the Jewish tradition, we bury our loved ones within two to three days of their passing. As such, the funeral was already held Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, at Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich, followed by interment at Brothers of Joseph Cemetery on Lois Street in Norwich. Shiva was held privately.
