Exeter, N.H. — David Kenneth Dimmock, 83, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022. He was born July 4, 1939, in Meriden, the son of the late Kenneth A. Dimmock and Ruth (Denison) Dimmock. David was a graduate of New London High School and later earned his bachelor of science and his master of science degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus. He graduated with distinction and as a “university scholar.” David participated in ROTC while at college and served his commission in the Army as a captain.

After his military service in Germany, David taught mathematics for five years at University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt., and then he worked as an instructor of mathematics (emeritus) at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H., from 1972 to 1999. He served as a proctor in residential halls for most of his tenure. David also coached spring track and field from 1972 to 1974, fall track and field from 1972 to 1976 and cross country from 1974 to 1985. He served as an advisor to the Outing Club and provided tutoring to any student who needed it. David loved the nature of mathematics and he loved to share it with his students even more.

David was a true outdoorsman, and he participated in activities throughout the year. He was an avid cyclist, snow shoer, runner and hiker, and he loved to camp out. David once rode his bicycle from Seattle, Wash., across the entire country, back home to Exeter, N.H. He also endured the rigors of a grueling marathon, which he had to do once!

David was extremely fond of music. He loved to sing, and he spent a great deal of his free time listening to choirs and to organ music. David traveled to many parts of Europe seeking beautiful music, eventually accumulating an extensive collection of CDs. On one trip abroad, David attended a family reunion in the village of Dymock, England, and he rode in its bicycle race.

David loved being with his family and regularly participated in gatherings with them. He took vacation time when his siblings and their families were doing so, for the pleasure of being there. David purchased a time-share at the Trapp Family Lodge and Resort and invited family members to join him in his guest house each year. He loved the fresh mountain air of Vermont and the possibility for adventure each day. David regularly spurred on family and neighbors for “pickup” softball games.

David is survived by his sister, Shirley (Dimmock) Perregaux and brother-in law Paul Perregaux; his brother, Wayne Dimmock; his beloved niece and nephews, Beth Adele Perregaux, Adrian (Susan) Perregaux, Kenneth (Kathy) Perregaux, David Perregaux, Aaron (Kim) Dimmock and Jonathan Dimmock; and by his great-nieces and nephews, Paul Mathewson, Timothy Mathewson, Emily (Perregaux) Cox, Jessica Perregaux, Ethan Perregaux, Jason Perregaux, Nicole Perregaux, Sara Perregaux, Rachael Perregaux, Nicholas Perregaux, Renée Perregaux, Amelia Dimmock, Camden Dimmock, Kinsey Dimmock & Peyton Dimmock.
