Salem — William A. Schultz, 87, died Feb. 10, 2023, at Backus Hospital with family by his side. He was born Jan. 15, 1936, to Toefil Schultz and Sophia Kozersky Bill graduated from New London High School in 1954, but always remained a “Bulkeley Boy.” Bill’s love of the outdoors and history grew throughout his childhood, something that he passed down to his children and grandchild­ren.

After his service to his country in Army Counterint­elligence, working for The New London Day and attending the University of Connecticu­t, Bill began a career in retail until his retirement. It was during this time that Bill met the love of his life, Evelyn Duford, and they began their journey of living their lives to the fullest, marrying on July 26, 1958. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in July and their years together were filled with many great times. Besides spending time with his family, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and archaeolog­y. He also volunteere­d for a great number of organizati­ons, such as the Boy Scouts of America, Gardner Lake Volunteer Fire Department, FOSA, The Arthur Basto Archaeolog­y Society and the Colchester Fish and Game Club. Bill was passionate on passing down the importance of history and the love of conservati­on and the outdoors. Bill especially loved his family and sharing his passions with them.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predecease­d by his son, Robert G. Schultz; his brother, Robert Schultz; and his beloved aunt, Helen Schultz. Surviving in addition to his wife, Evelyn (Duford) Schultz; are his son, William A. Schultz and wife, Deborah; daughter, Barbara Schultz; daughter-inlaw Joyce Schultz; his grandchild­ren, Aaron Rekas, Jason (Kelley) Schultz, Janet Schultz, Margaret (James) Hendry, William Schultz, Ashley (Andy) Raymond; and his great-grandchild­ren, Landon Raymond, Ryleigh Raymond, and Mia Hendry; brother Irvin Schiff (Linda) of Alabama; and sister Irene Karasevich of Uncasville. He is also survived by his “third son,” John (Leslie) Muscarella.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at the Salem Green Cemetery, 270 Hartford Road, Salem, followed by a reception at the Colchester Fish and Game Club, Old Amston Road, Colchester. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to the Colchester Fish and Game Club Scholarshi­p Fund, P.O. Box 257, Colchester, CT 06415; or to an organizati­on of your choice.
