Branford — Barbara “Barb” Dyer Beeler, 70, passed away peacefully Feb. 15, 2023, in Branford. She was the devoted mother of Elizabeth McWhorter (husband Scott) and two grandchildren: and of Justin Beeler. She is also survived by three sisters, Debra Perkins (husband, Dave), Amy Cabaniss (Turner) and Mary Landsfield (Bob), and their families. She is predeceased by their parents, Charles and Mary Jane Dyer.

Barbara was born in New York, N.Y., in 1952, and lived in Waterford. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1970. She earned an A.A. in liberal arts from Green Mountain College, a B.A. in education from Arizona State University and an M.A. in special education from Northern Arizona State University.

Barbara’s love of children and helping people inspired her to pursue a teaching career in special education that spanned three decades, helping children in need in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends, as well as taking personal interest in all whom she met. She had a great goodness of heart, along with sensitivity, devotion and strength. Barb was fun-loving and adventuresome, traveling near and far when she had the opportunity. She easily made friends wherever she went; and she will be greatly missed by many.

Private burial services will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Waterford Country School (waterfordcountryschool.org) with gift designations in her memory.
