CGA wrestlers second at NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional after first day

— Coast Guard Portland, Maine Academy sits in second place after Day 1 of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional wrestling tournament on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine.

Roger Williams sits in first place with 101 points while the Bears have 85.5 points.

Wrestling resumes on Sunday at 11 a.m.with the championsh­ip round semifinals and the finals are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Six Coast Guard wrestlers advance to the semifinals: Chase Randall (133 pounds), Nate Fitt (141), Joe Chapman (157), David McCullough (184), Coy Spooner (197) and Carl DiGiorgio (285).

Men’s diving

• Conn College senior Kai Listgarten competed at the NCAA Division III Region 3 Diving Championsh­ips. Listgarten finished sixth in Friday’s 1M competitio­n with a score of 420.20. In Saturday’s 3M event, his score of 407.00 was good enough for ninth overall.

Men’s hockey

• Ryan Tverberg scored twice as UConn beat New Hampshire 6-1 in a Hockey East game. Jake Flynn and Jake Veilleux had a goal and an assist each and Tristan Fraser and Samu Salminen scored for the Huskies (1910-3, 12-8-2). Jake Percival had two assists and Arsenii Sergeev made 29 saves for UConn.

Women’s hockey

• Katie Pyne scored 2:39 into overtime as No. 5 Boston College beat No. 4 UConn 4-3 in the quarterfin­als of the Hockey East tournament. Pyne also scored 16:11 into the third period to send the game into overtime. Brooke Campbell scored twice, Jada Habisch had a goal and an assist, Tia Chan made 28 saves and Christina Walker and Brianna Ware had assists for the Huskies (18-13-4).

• No. 4 Middlebury scored twice in the first period and went on to beat No. 5 Connecticu­t College 4-0 in the quarterfin­als of the New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament. Abby Wieczorek made 25 saves for the Camels (12-12-1).

Baseball

• UConn lost to California 4-2. Ben Huber had an RBI double and Korey Morton doubled and scored a run for the Huskies (3-3). Michael Quigley allowed one hit and no runs in 3.2 innings of relief, striking out four, for UConn.

Huber scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the 10th inning as UConn rallied to beat Cal Poly 11-10 on Friday night.

Luke Broadhurst had a double, two home runs, three runs and three RBI for UConn, which scored three times in the ninth to tie the game. David Smith added two hits, including a home run, with two runs and two RBI.

Softball

• UConn lost to Delaware 6-4 at the UNC Greensboro Invitation­al. Aziah James, Hope Jenkins and Lauren Benson had two hits each for the Huskies (5-5).
