FITCH HIGH’S UPCOMING 50TH, 45TH REUNIONS

The 50th reunion celebratio­n of the Fitch High School Class of 1973 will take place on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Dog Watch Cafe "Mystic," 20 Old Stonington Road off Route 1, in Stonington. $A 75 charge per person includes hors d'oeurves, dinner buffet, and dessert.

Fitch High School's class of 1978 reunion will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, at Par Four Restaurant, Plant Street in Groton. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Payment via check or money order prior to Aug. 31 is $50 a person. After Aug. 31, price increases to $60 a person. Cash, check or money order accepted at the door.

Make checks out to "Robert E. Fitch Class of 1978." Electronic payments (venmo, paypal etc.) will not be accepted.

GROOVE & MOVIE IN NORWICH AUG. 25

Norwich Youth, Family, and Recreation is hosting a free dance and movie night from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25, at the Rose City Senior Center. The night will be a double feature, starting with a 70's dance, followed by a screening of “Scooby Doo” to begin at 7:30. The dance portion of the evening will feature music, snacks, games, and a photo-booth.

LIFE OF LT. COLONEL WILLIAM LEDYARD

Most people know Lt. Colonel William Ledyard for his death during the Battle of Groton Heights in 1781. But what about his life? Writer John Steward will fill in the missing pieces of Ledyard's legacy at Bill Memorial Library on Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m.

Ledyard was a merchant, legislator, husband, and father of nine, with much to lose when he was brutally killed in Connecticu­t's only Revolution­ary War battle. During his talk, Steward will explore Ledyard's personal and business worlds and the national events that guided his life and destiny.

173RD ANNUAL BROOKLYN FAIR STARTS AUG. 24

The Windham County Agricultur­al Society will hold the 173rd annual Brooklyn Fair Aug. 24-27 at the Brooklyn Fairground­s.

The fair offers something for everyone. Visitors can walk through the animal barns housing cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and rabbits. Stopping by one of the event rings, they can see them in action, either with their handlers being judged on quality and skill or in one of the pull rings.

Events include truck and tractor pulls, lawn mower racing, woodmen show, skillet toss, arm wrestling, and more. New this year is a horse show on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a World of Equines demonstrat­ion Friday night.

Entertainm­ent includes Leppard: The Def Leppard Experience on Thursday at 8 p.m., while Friday's entertainm­ent starts at 2:30pm with Martin & Kelly Trio and Annie Brobst Duo at 4:30 p.m. At 8 p.m. Saturday is country music star Chris

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65+) and military (with ID). Admission is free for kids 12 and under. Parking is $7 in fair lots. The Brooklyn Fair is located at 15 Fairground­s Road, Brooklyn.
