Doris Wood

Niantic — Doris B. (Pearce) Wood, 84, of Niantic, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Wakefield, R.I., to the late Laurence and Constance Pearce. She was predeceased by her stepfather Frank Costanza Sr. of Bradford; her two sisters, Ruth Cassidy and Mary Limerick; her stepson Stanley John Wood Jr.; and her husband of 15 years, Robert Banning.

Doris will be dearly missed by her husband of 34 years, Stanley; and her children, Suzanne D’Amato (Michael), Sharon Gilluly (Diane) and Sandra Cervini (James); along with her grandchildren: Brandon and Jonathan Stephenson, Ashley Chmielewski (Sean) and Katelyn Cervini. She also leaves behind three stepchildren, Cheryl McGuire (William), Karen Cooke (Thomas) and Kevin Wood (Lee), and their children, and her great-grandchildren. Doris is also survived by her brother Frank Costanza Jr. (Jeanne).

Doris graduated from Westerly High School in 1957, and was employed in the underwriting department at Amica Insurance in Glastonbury until her retirement in 1994.

She enjoyed her home, tending to her flower gardens and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the most stylish woman — always dressed to the nines. The beach remained an important part of Doris’ life; and she loved taking drives with Stanley to look out on the water. Her quick wit and sense of humor will be warmly missed. She had a loving heart and found the best in everyone.
