Branford — Alberta Martino passed away peacefully Christmas morning, Dec. 25, 2023, with her daughters by her side. Alberta was born and raised in New Britain, to Albert and Anna Geringhell­i.

She grew up vacationin­g at Crescent Beach in Niantic; so when her husband’s job took the family to Old Lyme, she couldn’t have been happier. She loved the water, being at the beach and thought the town was a great place to raise her family. Alberta and her husband had a wide circle of friends and she cherished those relationsh­ips.

Alberta earned her degree from Becker Junior College and worked for many years at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. She retired with her husband so they could become Naples, Fla., snowbirds and travel. She loved the many trips they took through Europe and the U.S. Alberta was also an avid painter and enjoyed working with both watercolor and oils. Health issues and hurricanes brought Alberta and her husband back to Connecticu­t full time. They moved to Niantic where she very quickly got involved with the Chapman Woods community. In 2021, they moved to Evergreen Woods to be closer to their daughters. Alberta’s grace and kindness was evident in everything she did. She was a loving mother and devoted wife.

She was predecease­d by her husband Ronald; and her sister Inez Lapsis. She leaves behind her daughter Christine Carey and husband Michael and daughter Laura Martino and her spouse Elizabeth Ingalls. She also leaves behind her niece Patrice Eleveld; and nephew Jack Donlan.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. A Memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 1 McCurdy Road, Old Lyme. Gifts in memory of Alberta can be made to the Evergreen Woods Scholarshi­p Fund, 88 Notch Hill Road, North Branford, CT 06471.
