Federal funding announced for several local projects

Projects for the New London Police Department, Mystic Seaport Museum, and the Connecticu­t Audubon Society are among 58 federal grants announced Saturday for projects across the state.

More than $106 million in projects, requested by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Chris Murphy, D-Conn., will be funded through the 2024 Minibus Appropriat­ions bill approved by the U.S. Senate, Blumenthal announced in a news release.

“These federal funds are a fantastic win for our state,” Blumenthal said. “Connecticu­t can now count on millions of dollars for our most urgent needs — from increasing affordable housing to preventing and responding to domestic violence to improving our roads and transporta­tion systems.”

The grants announced include:

■ $743,000 for digital infrastruc­ture improvemen­ts for the New London Police Department.

■ $800,000 for the Connecticu­t Audubon Society, Inc. to protect and restore the Lieutenant River habitat and riparian zone in Old Lyme.

■ $251,000 for Mystic Seaport Museum to preserve its historic small watercraft collection.

■ $500,000 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to survey and test a reported shoal in the Stonington Harbor.

■ $500,000 for energy efficiency and climate control improvemen­ts for the Connecticu­t Audubon Society’s historic building in Old Lyme.

■ $400,000 to the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticu­t for the Regional Innovation Center.

■ $800,000 to the state Department of Transporta­tion for the New London Turnpike Bridge over the Yantic River in Norwich.

■ $2 million to the Sea Research Foundation (Mystic Aquarium) for threatened and endangered species conservati­on efforts.

■ $1 million for Sprague’s water pollution control facility upgrades.
