Stonington girls get past Waterford

Bears beat Lancers in boys’ match to remain unbeaten

— Misha and Marina Lewandowsk­i won their singles matches to help Stonington beat Waterford, 5-2, Friday in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I girls' tennis match.

Bethany Schoenecke­r earned at point at No. 4 singles for the Bears, who improved to 6-0 overall, 3-0 in the division.

Waterford's Sarah Hage outlasted Grace Duggan, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. The Lancers fell to 4-2, 1-1. In other matches:

• Ledyard blanked Norwich Free Academy, 7-0, in ECC Division II. Claire Fenaughty, Sarah Banach, Cassie Rice and Rachel Kulterman all won their singles matches in straight sets for the Colonels (3-3, 3-0). The Wildcats fell to 3-3, 0-2.

• St. Bernard swept the singles matches in a 5-2 victory over Windham/Windham Tech in ECC Division III, receiving straight set wins from Sasha Manzione, Blake Murray, Meri Kambolli and Zhuning Gao. The Saints are 4-1, 3-0.

• Anna Beauchene, Allie Kondash, Wendy Chen posted singles wins while Angi Liu and Fiona Li won their doubles match as Montville defeated New London, 4-3, in ECC Division III. The Wolves climbed to 3-3, 2-1. Nakayla Isaac earned a point at No. 4 singles for the Whalers (0-6, 0-3).

• Undefeated Old Lyme clipped Coginchaug, 6-1, in a Shoreline Conference match. Katherine Zhang needed a tiebreaker to win at No. 2 singles while Emma Arfelt and Rose Dimmock won at No. 3 and No. 4, respective­ly, for the Wildcats (11-0).

• Williams School tied Hamden Hall, 3-3, with Emily Smith winning a hard-fought battle at No. 4 singles by a 10-8 margin. The No. 2 doubles duo of Tyler Lui and Sabine Ballentine rallied from a 5-2 deficit for an 8-5 win.

• Norwich Tech swept doubles play in a 6-1 win over Grasso Tech on Thursday.

Alyssa Mikolajzca­k, Amaris Moreno, Alejandra Cardona and Sophia Caballero won their matches for the Warriors (3-1, 3-0) along with the doubles teams of Emily Pomerleau-Zerrin Ratzer and Alexa Lopez-Makenzie Stabach. Kyra Cho and Samantha Garcia of Grasso won No. 3 doubles.

Boys

• Stonington swept Fitch, 7-0, in an ECC Division I match to improve to 9-0 overall.

Tucker Callahan, Brady O'Neil, Matthew Turrisi and Peter Schoenecke­r won in singles action for the Bears, 4-0 in the division. The Falcons are 3-4, 0-4.

• Niko Churis won in straight sets in singles play while Alex Churis and Jhandel Marichal won their doubles match in straight sets, as well, for New London in a 5-2 victory Thursday over Old Saybrook.

The Whalers (5-1) have won five straight.

• Sam Cunningham and Zachary Kobyluck won singles matches and St. Bernard/Wheeler added victories from its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams in a 4-3 win over Killingly on Thursday.

Andrew Coronado and Christian Agreda won at first doubles for the Saints and Andre Nopal and Raymond Zhang at No. 2.
