new york» Walt Weiss and Matt Harvey are both North Carolina Tar Heels, a connection that the Rockies manager appreciates, but not one he’s eager to pursue from the batter’s box.

“I didn’t show up for the alumni game, for good reason,” Weiss joked Tuesday afternoon.

The Rockies had little choice but to show up for their appointment with Harvey, who has returned from Tommy John surgery this year to resume his spot as one of the National League’s most dominating pitchers. It didn’t go well. Harvey went eight innings and allowed the Rockies four hits, only one of which left the infield. The Rockies wasted another good effort from a starter and watched another woeful inning from their bullpen, and they lost to the New York Mets for the second straight night, 4-0.

After two wins in three games in Washington, the Rockies have just two runs in two nights in New York, both coming on Carlos Gonzalez’s fourth-inning home run Monday. They didn’t even get a runner to third base until the ninth inning Tuesday.

At least they’re not alone in failing to score against Harvey, who has a 22M-inning scoreless streak and a 1.45 ERA in 10 starts since June 16.

“He throws all four pitches for strikes, and he was throwing 97,” said DJ LeMahieu, who had one of the Rockies’ three infield hits. “He’s a tough pitcher. When you get opportunities, you need to take advantage, but we really didn’t have too many opportunities.”
