DEPUTY HELD ON CHARGES OF ASSAULT

A Larimer County sheriff ’s deputy has been placed on paid leave after he was arrested after a domestic violence incident.

Deputy Jacob Ediger, 37, was jailed Wednesday morning on charges of third-degree assault and child abuse/endangerme­nt, both misdemeano­rs, according to a news release from the department. The charges also included a domestic violence enhancemen­t.

Ediger has worked for the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office for four years. He is a patrolman.

The victim, who has not been named, did not require medical attention, the sheriff ’s office reported.

Kidnap suspects caught in drive-thru lane. A man

and woman have been charged with kidnapping and robbery in Denver for sticking up two men at gunpoint.

The pair were caught in a stolen vehicle in a fast food drive-thru lane, authoritie­s said.

Ivan Lopez-Banuelos, 22, and Alese Sylva, 28, are each charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of motor vehicle theft, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

Lopez-Banuelos also is charged with three counts of possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

On Friday, two men offered Sylva a ride home from a Denver club, prosecutor­s said.

When they tried to drop her off in the 500 block alley between Elliot Street and Federal Boulevard, an armed man approached the car.

The charges allege that the pair then forced the two men at gunpoint to withdraw money from an ATM before stealing the vehicle.

Lopez-Banuelos and Sylva were caught a short time later when the stolen car was spotted at a local eatery.

Lopez-Banuelos’ bail is set at $200,000 and Sylva’s bail is set at $100,000, the DA’s office said.

Both remain in custody, and both are scheduled for a Friday court appearance.

Funds raised for deputy’s family B

jefferson county» The Elk Creek Fire Department raised $4,875 at its annual car wash in Conifer this past weekend and plans to give the money to the family of Jefferson County Sgt. Sean Renfro, who died while trying to help motorists in bad weather.

The department also voted to donate all proceeds from the car wash to the Renfro family for the next two years.

Renfro was killed Jan. 3 while off duty when an out-of-control vehicle struck him after he stopped to direct traffic at an accident near Conifer.

Two killed when Jeep, motorcycle crash

B boulder county» Officials on Wednesday night shut down the intersecti­on of North Foothills Highway and Lefthand Canyon Drive in Boulder County after a motorcycle crash killed two people, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The accident, which involved a motorcycle carrying two people and a Jeep carrying one, was reported at 6:45 p.m. Trooper Nate Reid told the Daily Camera that the man and the woman on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep’s occupant was not injured.
