ASTROS HACKING CASE LEADS TO GUILTY PLEA FROM EX- CARDS EXEC

houston » The former scouting director of the St. Louis Cardinals pleaded guilty in federal court to hacking the Houston Astros’ playerpers­onnel database.

Christophe­r Correa pleaded guilty Friday to five counts of unauthoriz­ed access of a protected computer, access that authoritie­s said dated back several years. Correa, 35, was the Cardinals’ director of baseball developmen­t until he was fired last summer.

Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. had blamed the alleged hack on “roguish behavior” by a handful of individual­s. No one else was charged.

The data breach was first reported in June 2014, when Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow told reporters his team was the victim of hackers who accessed servers and published months of internal trade talks online. Luhnow is a former Cardinals employee.

• A person familiar with the situation said Chicago Bears offensive coordinato­r Adam Gase, like McCoy a former Broncos assistant, will have a second interview with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday regarding their head coaching job.

Gase also interviewe­d with the New York Giants for their head coaching job.
