Pi­o­neers Shore up vic­tory

Quentin Shore scored two goals Fri­day night as the Univer­sity of Den­ver held on for a 5- 3 vic­tory over Western Michi­gan at Magness Arena.

Shel­don Dries scored with 1: 49 re­main­ing af­ter the Bron­cos pulled their goal­tender, cut­ting DU’s lead to 4- 3.

But Matt Marcinew scored an empty- net goal 90 sec­onds later, and the Pi­o­neers held on from there. They im­proved to 10- 7- 4 over­all and 6- 4- 1 in the NCHC.

Shore scored his goals dur­ing a nine- minute span in the se­cond pe­riod, the se­cond goal giv­ing the Pi­o­neers a 3- 1 lead.

Emil Romig put DU on the score­board with a goal just two min­utes into the game.

Af­ter Grif­fen Molino tied the score at 1- 1 with a goal mid­way through the first pe­riod, Troy Terry put the Pi­o­neers back in front with a goal just be­fore the end of the pe­riod.

Shore’s two se­cond- pe­riod goal­swere sand­wiched by Dries’ first goal of the game for Western Michi­gan, which dropped to 7- 12- 2 and 4- 7- 0.

Tan­ner Jail­let made 30 saves for the Pi­o­neers, who won their third con­sec­u­tive game af­ter en­dur­ing a stretch of six con­sec­u­tive games with­out a vic­tory.

Matt Vanvoorhis con­trib­uted two as­sists for DU.
