Who: Brian and Stacey Rath­bun of Lit­tle­ton, Stephanie Soderquist of Green­wood Vil­lage and Drew Gaynor of Tuc­son Where: Fin­ger Rock Trail­head in Tuc­son. Fin­ger Rock is a dis­tinc­tive rock for­ma­tion in the Santa Catalina Moun­tains on the north side of Tuc­son. The trail trav­els through Saguaro cac­tus and ju­niper scrub on up to the rock for­ma­tion. Great views of the Tuc­son area from that el­e­va­tion. Best meal: El Charro claims to be the old­est con­tin­u­ously op­er­at­ing fam­i­ly­owned Mex­i­can restau­rant in the United States. Try the Ban­dera Pablano Chile Rel­leno. Best deal: Free ex­hibit about the cap­ture of John Dillinger at the Congress Ho­tel in down­town Tuc­son. Best time to go: Oc­to­ber to April, when the day­time tem­per­a­ture is not ex­treme. Best travel tip: Take lots of wa­ter and en­ergy snacks on the hike. Walk­ing sticks would be help­ful for the re­turn trip.
