Season- ticket holders get hold of super ones
Bud Laber has been a Broncos season- ticket holder since 1972, but Wednesday marked the first time he had been lucky enough to win the right to buy a Super Bowl ticket. He wasn’t going to pass it up. “I go to every game when I’m in town, and I only missed one this year,” Laber said as he and dozens of others began picking up their tickets to the Feb. 7 game in Santa Clara, Calif.
“In fact, I’ve been on vacation in Cancun, so I had to miss the AFC championship game, but I flew back just so I could come pick up my tickets. I’m heading back to Cancun once I’ve got them in my hand.”
The team distributed its share of Super Bowl tickets using a lottery system. Letters went out with the results, and the winning ticket holders headed to the box office at Sports Authority Field at Mile High to buy tickets at face value: $ 1,500.
The Broncos have not said how many tickets are being offered to season- ticket holders.
Levi’s Stadium, where the Broncos will play the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, seats about 68,500, with 165 luxury suites and 8,500 club seats, according to the stadium website.
Some of the lottery winners were debating what to do with their Super Bowl tickets.
“It’s tough— I’m a teacher and this is a lot of money to spend over one weekend,” said Doug Scott, whose family has had season tickets since 1964. “I could sell them and take my family on vacation somewhere warm, so we’ll see.”
Others thought a chance to see Peyton Manning inwhat could be the final gameof his career was worth the cost.
“I’ve never been to a Super Bowl game, and I think this one is going to be good with Carolina’s offense and the Broncos defense,” said Connie Offermann, a Denver native. “But I’m most excited to see Manning. Ifwe win, he can retire on a good note and he’ll go out a winner. That’s very cool.”
Pat Doud, a Denver native whose family has been season- ticket holders since 1965, said she’s most excited for the celebrations and excitement that leads up to any Super Bowl.
“I went to the 1998 Super Bowl with John Elway, and itwas phenomenal— everyone should get to do it once,” Doud said. “I have two tickets, but I don’t think I’ll have trouble finding someone to come with me.”
