Wentz is worth trading up to draft

Time to deal D.T. I don’t like how Demaryius Thomas has played for the Broncos after signing his big contract. While his talent is a known quality, Denver has some young talent at wide receiver in Cody Latimer and Bennie Fowler. With Cleveland signing free agent Robert Griffin III to be their quarterback, I think the Broncos could help themselves on multiple fronts by trading Thomas, plus their draft picks in the first and third rounds, for the Browns’ choice at No. 2 overall. Denver could then draft whatever young quarterback it likes best. I like Carson Wentz of North Dakota State. What do you think?

Kiz: When the old land line rings at Kickin’ It Headquarters, it’s usually one of two things: 1) a friendly stranger requesting just a few personal details to improve our computer’s operating efficiency or 2) a fan demanding the Broncos trade Thomas. The first big contract of any athlete’s career can lead to trouble. I’m not ready to give up on D.T. The Broncos, however, should be concerned, and if Thomas doesn’t have a bounce-back season in 2016, his future will be in another NFL city.

Nuggets never on parade. Kiz, what happens first: The Avs win a playoff series, the Nuggets have backto-back winning seasons or the Rockies go to a secondWorld Series?

Kev, Denver

Kiz: You mean in my lifetime? If I live to be 100 years old, I’m afraid there’s a better chance of an asteroid hitting my house than the Nuggets leading a victory parade through the streets of downtown Denver.

More screaming than kicking. I like your schtick, Kiz. But the shortcomings of the U.S. men’s soccer team, which lost 2-0 to Guatemala on Friday, are not about coach Jurgen Klinsmann. It’s about the players. We lack talent at every position.

M. Foley, Boston and Denver

Kiz: From the day he took over the team, Klinsmann has exuded a vibe that’s poisonous to the U.S. national team. Everything about soccer made in the USA stinks, if you catch Klinsmann’s drift. It’s a self-fulfilling prophesy. Under his guidance, the team has slipped from being ranked 24th in the world to 30th. Rule No. 1 of coaching: love coaching your players, despite their flaws. Klinsmann fails on rule No. 1. Always has. Always will. He has to go. The sooner the better, for the good of U.S. soccer.

Rinse and repeat. And today’s parting shot is a reminder of what a Colorado man’s thoughts turn to in the spring— another season of at least 90 losses by our local baseball team:

As soon as Trevor Story becomes an all-star, the Rockies will trade him for a 50-year-old shortstop with a ridiculous contract and a washing machine.
