Man posing as a Broncos owner is arrested for trespassing at Dove Valley.
A man posing as a Denver Broncos owner was arrested for trespassing after he threatened to “get” Broncos General Manager John Elway, authorities said Thursday.
Cordell Eric Robinson, 36, was charged with seconddegree trespassing, a class 3 misdemeanor, on Monday following an incident in which he allegedly entered the UCHealth Training Center in Englewood and refused to leave, according to Julie Brooks, spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County Sheriff ’s Office.
Robinson, who has a lengthy criminal history for mostly petty crimes, allegedly entered the media room of the Dove Valley facility at 7:13 a.m. and was taking pictures of a trophy cabinet when a security officer asked him to leave.
He refused, claiming that he was a Broncos owner, with a 20 percent stake in the team, Brooks said.
Robinson was ordered a second time to leave, she said. At this point, Robinson yelled at the security officer: “I’ll get you and Elway,” Brooks said.
She said that if deputies thought that was a threat, he would have been charged with that offense as well.
After the incident, the Broncos restricted access to certain parts of the facility.
The security officer called 911 and Robinson allegedly pushed his way past the man, ran through the lobby and headed north of the facility on foot.
The Broncos declined to comment. Team spokesman Patrick Smyth downplayed the incident and media coverage of it with a comment on Twitter: “It makes for a nice headline, but in reality this was a very minor disturbance in our lobby handled by security.”
Sheriff ’s deputies arrested Robinson and booked him into the county jail. Bail was set at $750 and a restraining order was issued.
Robinson’s criminal history dates to 2005, when he was arrested for felony kidnapping. He entered a plea to misdemeanor recklessly causing injury, according to records. Between 2005 and 2013 he was arrested for violating a restraining order, misdemeanor trespass and motor vehicle theft.
