KENNEDY TOUTS TEAM COLORADO

-

omaha» For fans of The Basketball Tournament last summer, in which the winning team took the entire $2 million pot, the name D.J. Kennedy is a familiar one.

This year, it was his big-time play in the second half that helped his team, Overseas Elite, overcome a 20-point deficit to beat Team Colorado, made up mostly of former CU Buffs, to win the title and the money. The small forward received $174,000 once the money was divvied up among the team.

It was the second straight year that Kennedy’s team won the tournament. Asked to look back on it, he praised Team Colorado.

“The Colorado team was great,” he said. “They played well with each other, a really experienced team with a lot of great players. It was tough. A lot of credit to them. It definitely wasn’t easy. It was a great team.”

Former St. John’s star Kennedy is now in training camp with the Nuggets, where he is in the competition for the final spot on the roster.

“It’s been going well,” Kennedy said. “We’re just trying to take everything in, slow it down and give it all you got. Make sure your effort is there. That’s what you can control.”

Footnote.

Three Nuggets were held out of practice for precautionary reasons: center Jusuf Nurkic and guards Jamal Murray and Malik Beasley. The Nuggets had just one scheduled practice Thursday, the first time this week they have not had a two-a-day.
