TRUMP SPENDS $70 MILLION IN SEPT.

-

washington» Defying his notorious stinginess, Donald Trump more than doubled his campaign spending last month compared to August. He burned through roughly $70 million as his standing in polls and among fellow Republicans dropped.

His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, spent even more — almost $83 million.

New finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission outlined their dramatically different approaches to the quest for the White House. Trump, while putting more money than ever into advertising, spent a fraction of the roughly $66 million Clinton poured into media buys.

Clinton’s payroll topped 800 people, coming in as her second-highest expense of the month, about $5.5 million. Trump paid roughly 350 employees and consultants. He has outsourced most of his on-theground voter contact to the Republican Party.

General Loretta E. Lynch has expressed confidence in the American election system, saying she doesn’t see a threat to the integrity of the outcome.

Lynch spoke in Rome on Thursday, the day after Donald Trump refused to say whether he would honor the results of the election should he lose.

She told reporters that all 50 states have tools in place to protect voting systems “from attacks and hacks and the like.” She added that it would be very difficult for “any outside actor to try to actually impact or alter election results.”

vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine and interim chairman of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile. The organization, which has been posting stolen emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta, said in a tweet that it has a “surprise in store” for Kaine and Brazile.

Kaine has questioned the authenticity of WikiLeaks’ releases and said the e-mails were hacked as part of an effort by the Russian government to try to influence the presidential campaign.

Republican Donald Trump has focused on a previously leaked e-mail concerning Brazile, which he said showed that she improperly used her job at CNN to give Clinton advance warning on a question at a debate.

Another woman accuses Trump of unwanted touching. Another

woman came forward Thursday to accuse Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump of inappropriate physical contact, alleging that Trump unexpectedly put his arm around her and touched her breast while attending the U.S. Open tennis tournament in 1998.

Karena Virginia, who was 27 at the time, said she had attended a match with a group of doctors while working as a pharmaceutical representative. Her companions had left, and she was waiting alone outside the tennis complex to be picked up by a car service when she encountered Trump. She said he immediately started making comments about her appearance to a group of men.

“Look at her legs,” she recalled him saying before approaching her, wrapping his arm around her and then reaching down to her breast. “Don’t you know who I am?” she said he asked. She said the encounter ended moments later when her car arrived.
