Jail Clinton? For what crimes?
“Clinton should still be prosecuted,” Nov. 26 letter to the editor.
There’s an excellent reason why it would be foolish for the Justice Department to prosecute Hillary Clinton for “all the laws she broke,” in letter-writer Douglas Fleecs’ words. These laws do not actually exist. Rules are not laws. The FBI report was clear about this fact.
Likewise, Donald Trump cannot be prosecuted for refusing to release his tax returns. When he ignores conflicts of interest between his job as president and his business dealings, he is breaking no laws.
If Americans believe there should be laws restricting these dangerous behaviors, they should send Congress a message. But oops, President Trump would probably veto any attempts to limit his personal freedom. When choosing a president, our country has always depended on leaders having good faith and respect for traditions. What can we expect now?
BBB Letter-writer Douglas Fleecs illustrates a problem with which many of us struggle. How the heck do you know what to believe? Few of us have the opportunity to read and understand the relevant laws and then interview those surrounding Hillary Clinton to determine whether she committed a prosecutable offense. We are forced to outsource this kind of truth-gathering to reporters or government officials. And yet we know previously trusted sources of information have failed us. Apparently, Fleecs did not trust the director of the FBI, who concluded there was no prosecutable offense, nor the mainstream media when they reported that outcome. That Fleecs had to seek out other, more credible sources that conclude Clinton is prosecutable clearly reflects the crisis of authority so many of us are experiencing.
BBB Since letter-writer Douglas Fleecs is accusing Hillary Clinton of criminal behavior, he should tell us what laws she broke and where or when security was breached. Since no one else, including the FBI, can come up with real specifics as to criminal activity, perhaps Fleecs has answers that no one else has? The 64 million people who voted for her need his wisdom, since the winning candidate, as we have seen, is as pure as the driven snow.
