College Basketball Wrapup NO. 11 UCLA UPSETS NO. 1 KENTUCKY 97-92

lexington, ky.» Isaac Hamilton scored 19 points, T.J. Leaf had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and No. 11 UCLA beat No. 1 Kentucky 97-92 on Saturday, the Bruins’ second upset of the top-ranked Wildcats in as many years.

The Bruins matched their season scoring average to win this showdown of college basketball’s winningest programs in UCLA’s first visit to Rupp Arena, and end the Wildcats’ 42-game home winning streak. Kentucky cut its 14-point, second-half deficit to 95-92 on Derek Willis’ 3-pointer with 8.3 seconds remaining, but Bryce Alford’s two free throws with 7.4 left sealed UCLA’s win.

Besides hitting 35-of-66 shots from the field, UCLA outrebound­ed Kentucky 41-38 and limited the Wildcats to 41 percent shooting. It was the most points scored against a Kentucky team coached by John Calipari. Northern Colorado took a sixpoint lead into halftime against Northern New Mexico before a strong defensive effort in the last 20 minutes of the game earned UNC a 97-73 win. D.J. Miles had a team-high 20 points for UNC. … Peter Moller scored 22 points in Metro State’s 67-40 victory over Black Hills State. … Jason McManamen was 6-of-7 from the arc in scoring 21 points as Wyoming defeated Northern Iowa 81-73. … Esa Ahmad hit a tiebreakin­g 3-pointer with 1:28 remaining as No. 25 West Virginia ended No. 6 Virginia’s 24-game home winning streak with a 6657 victory. … Przemek Karnowski scored 18 points and No. 8 Gonzaga defeated No. 16 Arizona 69-62 in the inaugural Hoophall LA doublehead­er at the Staples Center. Josh Perkins added 16 points for the Zags, who beat the Wildcats for the first time since 2011 after losing six of their previous seven matchups. … Manu Lecomte scored 24 points and No. 9 Baylor took over in the second half for a 76-61 win over No. 7 Xavier. Johnathan Motley added 17 points and eight rebounds for the Bears, who have beaten three top-10 teams in the same season for the first time.

The Buffs improved to 6-0 at home, 8-0 overall.
