Police in Windsor on Thursday morning were called to a park on an attempted suicide, which turned into a death investigat­ion and led to heightened security at Windsor High School. School officials reported the death of a high school student.

“Today we are dealing with the death of one of our Windsor High School students. Because of the nature of the death, it is under investigat­ion,” the Weld RE-4 District said.

Mining company challenges method in Superfund decision

B durango» The owner of an inactive gold mine is contesting the way a Superfund site was establishe­d after a massive wastewater spill from another mine.

Sunnyside Gold Corp. filed a petition in federal court, saying some properties weren’t properly reviewed before they were included. The Sunnyside Mine is included in the site. The Environmen­tal Protection Agency establishe­d the Superfund site in September, about a year after the agency triggered a 3-million-gallon spill from the Gold King Mine.

Man found dead after SWAT standoff B

estes park» A Larimer County SWAT team found a man dead inside a business after a standoff Tuesday, according to Sheriff Justin Smith. Estes Park police received a call reporting that a possibly suicidal man had barricaded himself inside a business at the intersecti­on of South Saint Vrain Avenue and Dunraven Street, Smith said. Negotiator­s weren’t able to communicat­e with the suspect, and an armored SWAT truck was used to breach the building.

Cops say man missed bus, stole vehicle, crashed, got caught

B grand junction» A man arrested for stealing a car in Grand Junction, after he missed a bus, was found hiding in bushes after the stolen car crashed, police said.

About 7 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called about a stolen vehicle, according to police. The victim told police he left the vehicle unattended with a key fob inside. There were guns inside the stolen vehicle, the victim said.

A short time later, the stolen vehicle crashed in the 600 block of 28 Road. A witness told officers a man ran from the crash. A Fruita police officer, using a dog, tracked the suspect to some bushes. Gary Johnson, 58, of Grand Junction was arrested.

Woman, 71, drives car through restaurant

B greeley» Driver Marsha Jensen, 71, drove her 1995 Buick about 10 feet through the Egg and I restaurant at 3830 10th St., according to law enforcemen­t officials. The back window was shattered, tables were destroyed and walls of the restaurant’s back room were caved in.

Fire Battalion Chief Dave Einspahr said the crash happened when Jensen confused the gas and break pedals. He said she was stuck in the car for about 10 minutes.

No injuries were reported. Jensen received a ticket for careless driving.

Authoritie­s identify man found dead along U.S. 6

B clear creek county» Authoritie­s have identified the 39-year-old Weld County man found dead along U.S. 6 on Wednesday. Ryan Trent of Gilcrest was discovered near the intersecti­on with Interstate 70 east of Idaho Springs. Staff and wire reports
