Po­lice in Wind­sor on Thurs­day morn­ing were called to a park on an at­tempted sui­cide, which turned into a death in­ves­ti­ga­tion and led to height­ened se­cu­rity at Wind­sor High School. School of­fi­cials re­ported the death of a high school stu­dent.

“To­day we are deal­ing with the death of one of our Wind­sor High School stu­dents. Be­cause of the na­ture of the death, it is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion,” the Weld RE-4 District said.

Min­ing com­pany chal­lenges method in Su­per­fund de­ci­sion

B du­rango» The owner of an in­ac­tive gold mine is con­test­ing the way a Su­per­fund site was es­tab­lished af­ter a mas­sive waste­water spill from another mine.

Sun­ny­side Gold Corp. filed a pe­ti­tion in fed­eral court, say­ing some prop­er­ties weren’t prop­erly re­viewed be­fore they were in­cluded. The Sun­ny­side Mine is in­cluded in the site. The En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion Agency es­tab­lished the Su­per­fund site in Septem­ber, about a year af­ter the agency trig­gered a 3-mil­lion-gal­lon spill from the Gold King Mine.

Man found dead af­ter SWAT stand­off B

estes park» A Larimer County SWAT team found a man dead in­side a busi­ness af­ter a stand­off Tues­day, ac­cord­ing to Sher­iff Justin Smith. Estes Park po­lice re­ceived a call re­port­ing that a pos­si­bly sui­ci­dal man had bar­ri­caded him­self in­side a busi­ness at the in­ter­sec­tion of South Saint Vrain Av­enue and Dun­raven Street, Smith said. Ne­go­tia­tors weren’t able to com­mu­ni­cate with the sus­pect, and an ar­mored SWAT truck was used to breach the build­ing.

Cops say man missed bus, stole ve­hi­cle, crashed, got caught

B grand junc­tion» A man ar­rested for steal­ing a car in Grand Junc­tion, af­ter he missed a bus, was found hid­ing in bushes af­ter the stolen car crashed, po­lice said.

About 7 p.m. Wed­nes­day, of­fi­cers were called about a stolen ve­hi­cle, ac­cord­ing to po­lice. The vic­tim told po­lice he left the ve­hi­cle unat­tended with a key fob in­side. There were guns in­side the stolen ve­hi­cle, the vic­tim said.

A short time later, the stolen ve­hi­cle crashed in the 600 block of 28 Road. A wit­ness told of­fi­cers a man ran from the crash. A Fruita po­lice of­fi­cer, us­ing a dog, tracked the sus­pect to some bushes. Gary John­son, 58, of Grand Junc­tion was ar­rested.

Woman, 71, drives car through restau­rant

B gree­ley» Driver Mar­sha Jensen, 71, drove her 1995 Buick about 10 feet through the Egg and I restau­rant at 3830 10th St., ac­cord­ing to law en­force­ment of­fi­cials. The back win­dow was shat­tered, ta­bles were de­stroyed and walls of the restau­rant’s back room were caved in.

Fire Bat­tal­ion Chief Dave Einspahr said the crash hap­pened when Jensen confused the gas and break ped­als. He said she was stuck in the car for about 10 min­utes.

No in­juries were re­ported. Jensen re­ceived a ticket for care­less driv­ing.

B clear creek county» Au­thor­i­ties have iden­ti­fied the 39-year-old Weld County man found dead along U.S. 6 on Wed­nes­day. Ryan Trent of Gil­crest was dis­cov­ered near the in­ter­sec­tion with In­ter­state 70 east of Idaho Springs. Staff and wire re­ports
