Driver fires shots at police during chase

- By Kieran Nicholson

A man driving a stolen car fired shots at pursuing deputies Wednesday before he and a female passenger were apprehended.

Cripple Creek police tried to stop a stolen vehicle about 1 p.m., according to a Teller County Sheriff ’s Office news release. The driver drove north on County Road 1. Just south of Evergreen Station, a deputy put stop sticks in the road to blow out the vehicle’s tires.

As the vehicle drove over the device, the driver fired shots from a handgun at the deputy. The deputy was not hit, and the vehicle kept going north and got on County Road 11, toward Guffey.

The driver continued to shoot at pursuing officers, but the vehicle, with three flat tires, eventually came to a stop.

Austen Adams, 26, and Tara Lynn Kennedy Tarasi, 18, were taken into custody.

A stolen semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the vehicle.
