TSA PreCheck RV to travel around Denver
A mobile TSA PreCheck RV will continue to travel around Denver until the end of January, signing up an average of 50 people per day.
The program was initially meant to last four weeks but has been extended for a total of 60-90 days depending on demand, program spokesman Charlie Carroll said. It signed up 644 people Dec. 5-21.
Its popularity is not shocking; the Denver International Airport enrollment center has the highest volume of requests in the United States, Carroll said.
“Denver seems to be a marketplace where the demand is really high,” he said.
He didn’t know why Coloradans are so hungry for PreCheck but said, in general, it’s likely because word has gotten out about the program, more people are flying in the improved economy, and the program offers a level of convenience.
“I think people want security,” Carroll said. “They want to feel safe at the airport, but they also want to travel with less stress, with less hassle.”
Carroll said the mobile sign-up program is a way to make enrollment convenient.
There are already two RVs in action, an East Coast RV and the West Coast RV whose first stop was Denver. Carroll said one to four RVs will be added to the program in 2017.
He said signing up takes about 4 minutes. Biometric scans are sent to the CIA and FBI to be cleared. A passenger is isssued a “known traveler” number, which should arrive in one to five days. It costs $85 to have PreCheck for five years.
