DRCOG CHIEF RESIGNS POST

Jennifer Schaufele has resigned her position as executive director of the Denver Regional Council of Government­s. Her departure was effective Feb. 17.

The Denver Regional Council of Government, or DRCOG, is a planning organizati­on where local government­s collaborat­e to establish guidelines, set policy and allocate funding in the areas of transporta­tion and personal mobility; growth and developmen­t; and aging and disability resources.

During her tenure with DRCOG, Schaufele helped lead several regional efforts, including the redevelopm­ent of Denver’s Union Station and the lobbying for significan­t improvemen­ts to the Older Americans Act, which funds services for and protects the rights of older adults.

Doug Rex, director of transporta­tion planning and operations, will fulfill the duties of executive director until a new person is named to the position.

Hunter becomes the hunted. A former Elbert

County deputy is wanted nationwide after missing his court appearance in a case of alleged poaching of deer.

According to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Steve Few faces multiple felony and misdemeano­r charges.

On Nov. 17, Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a report of suspected illegally harvested deer near Elbert. After a wildlife officer investigat­ed, the Elbert Country Sheriff’s Office and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office focused on Few as the primary suspect and discovered he was a deputy.

Few, originally from Georgia, had been with the sheriff’s office about 2½ months at the time of the incident, but resigned from the sheriff’s office. He was arrested in Georgia Dec. 20 and was released on bond.

A warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to return to Colorado for the court appearance.

Man convicted in 2015 double shooting. A 34year-old

man has been convicted of first-degree murder in a deadly 2015 double shooting in Denver.

Jesse L. Oliver, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office, was found guilty Thursday after a six-day trial. He was also convicted of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon in the slaying of 34-year-old Bobby Brown and the wounding of a teen girl.

Investigat­ors say that on Sept. 16, 2015, Oliver fatally shot Brown and wounded the girl outside of an apartment building at 13890 Albrook Drive in the city’s Montbello neighborho­od.

Oliver is scheduled to be sentenced on May 17.

Dog shot during robbery

B colorado springs» A man broke into a home near downtown Colorado Springs on Thursday night and shot the homeowner’s dog during the robbery.

The encounter happened about 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East Vermijo Street. The victim told police the suspect entered his residence, pulled out a gun and demanded money.

“The victim said his two dogs were present at the time,” police said in a news release. “The suspect shot one of the dogs while demanding money.”

The victim was not injured. The dog’s condition was unavailabl­e.
