The Show has plenty of stars
The Show, Colorado’s annual high school all-star basketball showcase, will be held Saturday with four games at the Auraria Event Center at Metro State. CLASS 1A-3A TOP 20 GIRLS, 2:30 P.M. Blue Team: Heritage Christian senior Sarah McGinley (20.6 points per game) and Dayspring Christian junior Megan Roberts (23.5) provide offensive firepower, while Kit Carson has three representatives in coach Sara Crawford, sophomore Tess Hornung (14.6) and sophomore Olivia Isenbart (9.6). White Team: Olathe senior Miranda Pacheco (18.1) and Sargent senior Quiney Lester (18.6) are top offensive threats, with the Sterling duo of junior Brooke Polenz (11.0) and senior Abbey Brower (9.8) also highlighting the roster. CLASS 1A-3A TOP 20 BOYS, 4 P.M. Blue Team: Colorado Springs Christian senior Justin Engesser (21.7 points per game, 9.4 rebounds, Colorado Christian) headlines while DSST Stapleton senior Jordan Heien (14.0), Colorado Academy sophomore Hunter Shkapich (20.0) and the Manual combo of senior Jerome Carter (17.6) and sophomore Jaedon Bowles (23.5) are also key players. White Team: Sterling junior Bodie Hume (15.7) represents the Class 3A state champion Tigers while notables such as Resurrection Christian senior Tanner Ervin (27.0), Basalt senior Michael Glen (22.1) and Holly’s Yaniel Vidal (15.7) round out the starring cast. TOP 20 GIRLS, 5:30 P.M. Blue Team: The Cherry Creek tandem of freshman Jana Van Gytenbeek (14.8 points per game) and junior Jaela Richardson (9.3 points, 7.5 rebounds) headline, as does the Fairview tandem of Grace O’Neil (18.2, 8.0) and Ashley Panem (17.9). Pomona senior Ashley Madden (20.1, Mesa State), Loveland senior Tatum Rembao (24.2, Creighton) and Ralston Valley senior Ashley Van Sickle (15.9, Montana State) also provide guard depth. White Team: Monarch seniors Peyton Carter (15.8, CU) and Jasmine Jeffcoat (13.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, UMKC) are a reliable outside-inside presence, while Lakewood junior Camilla Emsbo (18.9, 8.7) and Regis Jesuit sophomore Fran Belibi (15.7, 11.6) are sure to dominate the paint as well. And don’t miss the play of guards such as Liberty Common’s Haily Miklos (22.1, 11.1), a Cornell commitment and 3A player who’s playing up in the Top 20 game, as well as Horizon’s Kylie Jimenez (19.1, Portland State) and Highland Ranch’s Tommi Olson (14.8). TOP 20 BOYS, 7 P.M. Blue Team: The George Washington trio of senior Jervay Green (19.7, Western Nebraska), Calvin Fugett (14.7) and Jon’il Fugett (16.3) are sure to shine, as is ThunderRidge’s duo of senior Corey Seng (21.2) and junior Kaison Hammonds (14.4). Plus, keep an eye on Fossil Ridge’s all-time leading scorer Braxton Bertolette (28.5, North Dakota), Pueblo West senior standout David Simental (25.8), Golden junior Adam Thistlewood (18.9, 6.5) and Mountain Vista senior big man Jake Belknapp (16.6, 9.0, Northern Colorado). White Team: Elite guard play reigns supreme as Eaglecrest senior Colbey Ross (18.4, Pepperdine), Rock Canyon junior Sam Masten (22.3), Denver East junior Daylen Kountz (26.4), Cherokee Trail senior Jaizec Lottie (20.3), Sierra senior CJ Jennings (21.2, West Texas A&M) and Smoky Hill sophomore Kenny Foster (17.1, 4.3 assists) give coach Kent Grams a loaded backcourt. And down low, the likes of Smoky Hill junior Will Becker (9.3, 11.5 rebounds) and Grandview senior Gaige Prim (17.1, 10.6) are forces on the boards.
