BOURDAIS BREAKS PELVIS, HIP IN FIERY INDY CAR CRASH

indianapol­is » French driver Sebastien Bourdais had surgery Saturday night to repair a fracture pelvis suffered in a fiery crash during Indianapol­is 500 qualifying.

Track officials said doctor sat Indiana University methodist Hospital reported that Bourdais has multiple fractures in his pelvis and a fractured right hip.

Team owner Dale Coyne said in a statement that Bourdais was “in good hands’’ at the hospital and that the team must wait for him to recover.

He was injured when the No. 18 car wiggled in the second turn, slid up the track and slammed head-on into the second turn wall. The car then flipped over, with flames and smoke billowing out, before skidding to a stop in the back straightaw­ay.

Safety team members spent about 10 minutes getting Bourdais out of the car before putting him on a backboard. Track officials said he was awake and alert when he was transporte­d by ambulance to the hospital. They said he never lost consciousn­ess.

Bourdais had just completed two laps at more than 231 mph— the fastest laps of the day— when his car started to spin.

Coyne will likely have to find a replacemen­t driver for the May 28 race but may not have to make the decision before the second round of qualifying is completed.

• Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Dontrelle Inman underwent core muscle surgery and will be out six weeks, a source told NFL reporter Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The surgery, performed by Dr. Williammey­ers in Philadelph­ia, will keep Inman out for the rest of offseason work, but should allow him to return for the start of training camp at the end of July.

Kyle Busch used a bold three-wide pass for the lead to win NASCAR’S annual All-star race for the first time.

Although the race does not count in the standings, it was Busch’s first Cup victory of the season and first at Charlottem­otor Speedway. Busch also won the Truck Series race Friday night, but Saturday night’s victory was worth $1 million.

Busch dived low around Brad Keselowski and Jimmie Johnson on the restart to take the lead on the final 10-lap sprint. This year’s format pitted 10 drivers against one another for 10 final laps with the money on the line. Martin Truex Jr. finished 12th after starting from the No. 14 spot.
