KING FELIX SET TO RETURN TO MOUND FRIDAY

-

Mariners ace Felix Hernandez will return from the disabled list and start Friday against the Astros.

Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters Sunday that Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma will both be activated from the DL in time for the weekend series. Servais expects Iwakuma to start either Saturday or Sunday.

Hernandez, 31, has missed almost two months because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The sixtime All-Star threw six shutout innings in a rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Tacoma.

Chapman returns

● oakland, calif.» Aroldis Chapman rejoined his Yankee teammates after more than a month on the disabled list.

Manager Joe Girardi planned to use Chapman in the series finale at Oakland regardless of the situation just to get him back in the major-league mix immediately.

Chapman pitched the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday and had one strikeout. He threw seven of eight pitches for strikes.

Arroyo could be done.

Bronson Arroyo said his career might be at “checkmate” because of pain in his right throwing shoulder.

Arroyo, 40, lasted three innings for the Reds against the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing five earned runs on seven hits.
