Injured Edgewater police officer moved out of ICU
An Edgewater police officer who suffered a heart attack during a struggle with a DUI suspect has been moved out of intensive care, authorities said Friday.
Cpl. Michael Nesbitt is recuperating but remains in the hospital, according to a news release from Jenny Fulton, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
“He and his family wish to thank everyone for their support and positive thoughts and prayers,” according to a statement released by the Edgewater Police Department.
Nesbitt had suffered respiratory and cardiac arrest and was in critical condition at Lutheran Hospital.
The incident happened at about 2 a.m. June 23 when officers tried to stop the driver of a motorized scooter for suspected DUI. The driver is accused of fighting officers as they tried to put him in custody.
