Liberal opposition to capitalism? That’s not quite right

“My support for Trump is about liberal opposition to capitalism,” June 26 letter to the editor.

Letter-writer Denny Cannon does not appreciate that it’s the laissez-faire, tear-’em-up, profiteering capitalism that thinking people don’t like — not the fair, regulated, competitive capitalism that the economy of this country was built upon, and which has been balanced, and often bailed out, by timely doses of socialism, like Social Security, most of our infrastructure, education, military defense, and law enforcement. If Cannon wants to build and maintain his own roads, water-treatment and sewage facilities, et cetera (without messing up the environment), more power to him.
