THESE BAGS HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE: In simpler times, transparent vinyl

- MB Greene Be Clear Tote is $38; Chain Purse, $48; Wristlet; $28; privacy pouch, $12; with a package price of $99 for all four bags; at www.mbgreene.com.

bags were mainly beach gear for stashing wet towels or keeping paperbacks, keys and cash dry and sand-free. Now, they have become serious staples at high-security venues requiring clear visibility of anything carried. MB Greene, a purveyor of lightweight, easy care organizers, has met this mandate with a new line of see-through bags that are security-compliant — but with a flash of flair. The company’s Be Clear Collection includes a 12-inch by 12-inch by 6-inch-deep transparent tote, with leather-like straps and trim, and stylish stitching; an 8-inch by 5-inch by 3-inch-deep zippered purse with a long detachable shoulder chain; and an 8-inch by 5.25-inch zippered wristlet with leatherette zipper pull and carry strap. The collection also features a regulation-size 4.5-inch by 6.5-inch zippered black nylon “privacy pouch” for keeping cash and credit cards under cover but easily accessible for inspection. The four bags can be bought individually or at a substantially reduced package price. For times when full disclosure is neither required nor recommended, just slide the tote and/or the other Be Clear bags into any slightly larger opaque carrier (MB Greene sells a variety of styles in bright colors with contrasting trim). For those of us who are forever foraging blindly through seldom-culled bags, pulling a see-all hold-all out of an opaque twin is a trick as magic as pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The Be Clear Collection will soon add a transparent phone pouch with a cross-body leatherette strap; more see-through siblings are in the works.
