MAN, 48, CONVICTED OF KILLING POT PARTNER

Shawn Geerdes, 48, was convicted this week in connecton with the shooting death of a marijuana grow operation partner by an Elbert County jury, according to the district attorney’s office. Geerdes, of Agate, also was convicted of second-degree arson and of setting a wildfire.

A car set on fire in Jefferson County sparked a wildfire on Sept. 20, 2015, and emergency responders found a body in the trunk.

The body, later identified as Jason Dosa, 44, of Parker, had been shot five times.

Geerdes is scheduled to be sentenced Sept 5. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 96 years in prison if found to be a habitual offender.

Heavy rains washout roads, cause mudslides.

Heavy rains on Friday caused mudslides and road washouts in Garfield County.

Torrential rains fell at about 6 p.m. just north of Rifle, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. The slides and washouts moved heavy debris and rocks.

Colorado Department of Transporta­tion crews are working to reopen Colorado 325 between Rifle Gap and Colorado 13.

Greeley man gets 24 years in 30-year-old case.

A 57-year-old man was sentenced on Friday to 24 years in prison for attacking a woman in a Greeley alley more than three decades ago.

Rusty Barnhart received the maximum sentence on a second-degree kidnapping conviction, “the only possible charge due to the statute of limitation on sex assaults,” according to the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.

In 2014 two DNA hits were connected to Barnhart and a co-defendant Inocencio Trevino, whose case is scheduled for trial in August.

Injured eagle recovers at raptor center.

female golden eagle is recovering from a leg injury at a Colorado raptor center, and the center director hopes the bird can be returned to the wild soon.

The Nature and Raptor Center of Pueblo says the bird was brought in Wednesday with a soft-tissue injury to her left foot. Raptor Center Director Diana Miller says Friday the eagle is feeling much better.

Miller says the center treats six to 10 injured eagles a year.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Bill Vogrin says fish and game officer Benjamin Meier found the injured eagle on the ground beside a southern Colorado highway in a rainstorm Tuesday night.

Woman dies in Clear Creek tubing accident.

A 48-year-old woman died Friday after she fell off her inner tube when it flipped in Clear Creek near Golden.

Golden firefighte­rs were on scene within two minutes of the 12:45 p.m. 911 call and pulled her from the water and started CPR, Golden police said.

The woman was taken by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood where she died, police said.

Denver man sentenced to 6 years for sex assault.

A Denver man was sentenced on Friday to six years in prison for sexual assault.

Joseph Martinez, 33, was convicted in May for a June 29, 2015, sex assault, according to the Denver
