A quick guide to this weekend’s VegFest

VegFest Colorado, the annual vegan festival by Animal Action Network, is this weekend. The festival will host vendors, authors and chefs who all celebrate a plant-based diet.

Attendees can sample food from restaurant­s and manufactur­ers, find out ways to prepare healthy food and learn about health, diet and environmen­tal from speakers.

Looking to head there yourself ? Here are the basics you’ll need to know:

Where? Jefferson Country Fairground­s, 15200 W. Sixth Ave., Golden

When? Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Tickets? $10 at the door; people 16 and younger are free; ATMs will be in the ticketing area. It’s free. Handi- capped parking is available close to the exhibit hall.

No, Fido can’t come. will be talking about recipes and tips from his latest book, “Healing the Vegan Way,” on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Chef Ron Pickarski will show off barbecue seitan with caramelize­d onions and yellow beans and peanut butter mousse Sunday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. After, Vital Root Execuissue­s tive Sous Chef Jeffrey Lammer will be presenting a sunflower seed risotto with roasted summer vegetables from 2 to 3 p.m.

Who are the speakers? Author, vegan chef and wellness coach Tess Challis will be explaining how to transition to a plant-based diet Saturday 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Marie Oser, author of “The Skinny on Soy,” will be talking about the campaign to cast doubt on the safety of soy products Saturday from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Dr. Alan Goldhamer, the director of the True North Health Center, will be giving a talk related to the book he co-authored, “The Pleasure Trap.”

Something for the kids? Check out Kids Fit Kitchen, a program designed to be a bonding experience. Kids and adults will alternate between two ingredient­s and two exercises until a recipe is complete. Sunday 2 to 3:15 p.m.
