MON­CADA GLAD HE MISSED BAD IN­JURY

Top prospect Yoan Mon­cada was re­lieved to learn he prob­a­bly will miss just a few games for the White Sox af­ter bruis­ing his right knee in a fright­en­ing col­li­sion with out­fielder Willy Gar­cia.

Mon­cada said Tues­day he ex­pects to be out two or three days. Gar­cia, mean­while, was put on the seven-day dis­abled list be­cause of a con­cus­sion af­ter Mon­day’s ac­ci­dent.

“I was very con­cerned about the knee be­cause I was in a lot of pain,” Mon­cada said through a trans­la­tor. “But once they brought me in here, they told me it was noth­ing se­ri­ous, and I feel re­lieved.”

Gar­cia and Mon­cada were chas­ing Dar­win Bar­ney’s bases­loaded blooper in the sixth in­ning against Toronto when the sec­ond base­man kneed a slid­ing Gar­cia in the head . The ball trick­led out of Gar­cia’s glove for a three-run dou­ble.

Darvish de­buts Fri­day.

Yu Darvish will make his de­but with the Dodgers on Fri­day night at the Mets.

Darvish, a four-time All-Star, was ac­quired from the Rangers for three prospects just be­fore Mon­day’s dead­line to make trades with­out waivers. He was not with the team for Tues­day night’s opener of a three-game se­ries against the Braves.

Gray gets nod for Thurs­day.

» Sonny Gray is slated NEW YORK to make his Yan­kees de­but on Thurs­day at Cleve­land, and Jaime Gar­cia will start against the In­di­ans the fol­low­ing night.

Both pitch­ers joined the team Tues­day at Yan­kee Sta­dium. Traded from Oak­land a day ear­lier, Gray got up at 4 a.m. lo­cal time for a flight from Cal­i­for­nia to New York. Three hours af­ter land­ing, he threw a bullpen session.

Two fish fried for rest of year.

Mar­lins man­ager Don Mat­tingly said right-han­der Edin­son Volquez and short­stop J.T. Rid­dle will miss the rest of the sea­son be­cause of in­juries that may re­quire surgery.

Volquez is side­lined by a left knee in­jury, and Rid­dle by a left shoul­der in­jury.

The Braves called up in­fielder Ozzie Al­bies, one of the team’s top prospects, to start at sec­ond base against the Dodgers in his ma­jor-league de­but on Tues­day night.
